I was recommended to The Building Trades Group by a previous client. TBTG is a not for profit working and supporting the construction industry with Drugs, Gambling and Alcohol addiction. They work closely with Foundation house a rehabilitation centre based in Sydney and do amazing work in a industry where substance abuse is common and dangerous.

The Building Trades group go to construction sites and give awareness talks (Toolbox talks) to construction workers about the dangers of working whilst on drugs or alcohol, and give information that can help support them and their families.

When approached I was excited about becoming involved in such an important and needed venture.

With all branding projects meeting everyone involved in the business, understanding their needs and pain points and building a relationship is so important. We truely believe that you have to become part of the team to be able to create and design a brand that speaks their language and communicates to their audience.

We had a number of meetings and understood that the original brand – now around 10 years old was looking unprofessional, lacking in connection with todays construction industry and the message was not holistic in its approach.

Many other support groups for the construction industry had developed and left The Building Trades group behind. We put a proposal together for a full re brand consisting of

Logo, Business Cards, Posters, Flyers, Stickers, DVD

They needed a consistent brand message and style to provide marketing materials for the toolbox talks given on site.

We knew that their target market was wide, with majority of Alcohol users being 35 upwards, drug users 18 – 30. We needed a brand style that would appeal to all age groups, that would feel raw and real, without it being overbearing and dictating. We needed to look and feel professional but approachable.

Using black and white imagery allowed us to get a gritty and raw look and feel, and introducing the bright yellow worked with the construction industry.

We changed their tagline from What you do in your own time is your own business, to when your business becomes our business – Just not at work mate. We wanted to let people know that substance abuse is not just about taking drugs at work, that it effects their friends and family and TBTG has a holistic approach that can really help them.

Building trust and connection is very important – so that people who need help feel supported and protected.

The Building Trades Group now has a clear brand style that works for all areas and can be reproduced with confidence. They have assets to provide information at the toolbox talks. We are now working on a video edit to use at the toolbox talks and are looking forward to continuing to work with the team at TBTG and supporting their amazing work.

Website being re designed – will be LIVE soon

We have found working with Emma and The Business Designer Team to be seamless and easy. TBD understands quite quickly the essence of what the building trades group is all about and you came up with sharp and interesting new imagery for our logos and pamphlets.  It has been an absolute pleasure working with The Business Designer and look forward to future projects
