I am very happy to publish another blog by Stacey Cooper from https://bizzmarkblog.com

At the beginning of the year everyone has good intentions, being greener in your business is a smart move and one that I am definitely going to do in 2017.

One thing that business owners have in common is that they all want to make their business frugal. Of course, there are a lot of ways to do so, but not all of them are ethical or completely safe. On the other hand, you could take a different approach to this and look for ways to make your business save money in a completely green in an eco-friendly manner. This actually isn’t that hard to imagine since it means reducing the energy consumption and the amount (or at least the nature) of consumables used. All in all, here are 10 tips on how to green up your business in order to save money.

1.    Digital Instead of Printing

There is a statistic that an average office worker prints over 10.000 pages every year. This alone, is alarming both from a financial and ecological standpoint. Luckily, in the 21st century, there are more than few ways to cut down on your paper usage. For example, you can strongly encourage the use digital alternatives (email instead of a printed memo) whenever that is possible.

2.    Use Recycled Paper

Unfortunately, going digital won’t always be an option, but in these situations, you can always go with recycled paper. While some claim that it is never the same, with present day recycling technology you can barely even tell the difference.

3.    Refill Cartridges Yourself

Another consumable you can green up are your printing cartridges. Instead of purchasing them independently and then discarding them each time they get empty, you could simply buy large quantities of printing toner and simply refill them once they are out. For this, all you will need is a simple YouTube tutorial and a basic kit composed of a syringe, a pair of gloves and some old newspapers for furniture protection.

4.    More Ink Trick

You could also look for a simple hack that can help you get more ink from your toner. Sure, the quantity of ink saved won’t be as significant, however, over the course of time, this could amount to a serious improvement.

5.    Get Your Office Checked

Your next step towards leading a more frugal business should be having your building inspected for its energy efficiency. In this way, you will get to see if you have any leaks which let large amounts of heat leave your building unobstructed. Needless to say, you can later insulate them and significantly reduce your heat cost.

6.    Health Comes First

While, you’re at it, you could also check if there are any harmful substances in your building. According to experts specializing in asbestos removal from Melbourne, this dangerous construction material is especially present in older buildings. The way you save money in this way is indirect, but present nevertheless. Healthier workforce means fewer sick days, as well as a reduced chance of a lengthy and expensive lawsuit; not to mention the fact that health always comes first.

7.    Telecommuting

In 2015, 45 percent of people from the US worked from home. This way, companies save on office space and paying compensation for travel expenses, but there are perks for the environment, as well. You see, by eliminating the commute to the office, you are doing your part to reduce the traffic in your region.

8.    Power Friendly Appliances

Now, this part is a controversial one since although it saves you money in the long run, it requires a short-term investment. Be as it may, purchasing power friendly appliances for your office may create a significant saving over the course of years. As for the investment, well… You don’t have to buy all of these appliances at once.

9.    Switch to LED

One of the most popular choices to save money by going green lies in switching from incandescent light bulbs to LED. You see, while both of them provide the same amount of light, LED bulbs do so with a more favorable Watts-to-Lumens ratio. For the sake of comparison, the incandescent bulb of 60W produces the same amount of light as a 15W LED bulb.

10. Introduce a Power Saving Policy

Even the most innovative, power-friendly light bulbs won’t save you if the last person who leaves the room doesn’t turn the light off or forgets to turn off their PC as they head home. Like great Gandhi said ‘be the change you want to see in the world’ or in free interpretation – all the change comes from within. Make sure to introduce some power saving policies into the office and educate your staff members about ideas and doctrines in running a frugal and green workplace.

Conclusion

Seeing how they save both money and the environment, each of these tips can be rightfully considered as a win-win. While it is true that some of them require a significant one-time investment, for those who can afford it, they always pay off in the long run. In other words, these green trends offer you a chance to save money while doing something great for your business and the environment. It simply doesn’t get any better.
